UserLand's position re Web Services for W3C
The W3C has asked us, as part of participation in the Web Services Workshop, to write a position brief on our interest in Web Services. Here it is.
UserLand's mission is to turn the Web into a fantastic writing environment.
Our interest in Web services revolves around that mission.
We need Web services to:
1. Connect writing tools to server-based publishing systems.
2. Notify editors and readers that new content is available.
3. Integrate other services with content, especially e-commerce applications.
UserLand has been active in standards for Web services as:
1. A co-author of the XML-RPC specification.
2. A co-author of the SOAP 1.1 specification.
We operate several services for SOAP and XML-RPC developers:
1. http://www.soapware.org/
2. http://www.xmlrpc.com/
3. http://radiodiscuss.userland.com/soap
